“We’ll never know how much the blankets meant to them, until we stand in eternity one day”

Lehae Christian Church (in Lenasia, Gauteng) participated in the 2012 blankets4children drive and received 240 blankets for distribution. The church, which is active in various community outreaches, had raised funds for 120 blankets and through their partnership with turn the tide 4 children, this number had been doubled to 240 blankets.

According to Pastor Sydney Francis, the blankets were distributed to those in need by the Lehae Christian Church, as well as by Teen Challenge Lenasia and Zerah Christian Fellowship.

Pastor Chellen from Teen Challenge shares how they were able to distribute the blankets at a soup kitchen run by the Kliptown Nazarene Church and at a feeding scheme in Orange Farm (where they work in partnership with a small local church). He shares some of his experience:

“These people are the poorest of the poor, with no proper housing.  They were so excited to receive the blankets – I wish you could have seen the expression on their faces. The giving of the blankets was a great blessing to them. We’ll never know how much the blankets  meant to them, until we stand in eternity one day.”

Pastor Louis of Zerah Christian Fellowship was able to distribute the blankets in a squatter camp in Phoenix on one of the coldest days in Durban and reports:

“There was such a wonderful response from the people who received the blankets.  I was able to distribute them in the cold and rain to some unemployed people who were seeking shelter, as well as to labourers in the community. Thank you to the donors who made this possible. ”
